Mobile World Congress, cancellato per paura del Coronavirus. La prossima edizione arriverà nel 2021. Ecco la notizia.

Già da diversi giorni si vociferava in merito ad un possibile annullamento del Mobile World Congress 2020 in programma a Barcellona. Alla fine l’insistente voce è stata confermata ufficialmente. Il tutto a dispetto delle numerose rassicurazioni che erano state fatte nelle settimane precedenti all’evento.

Il Mobile World Congress 2020 è stato cancellato dalla stessa GSMA che ha dovuto optare per questa difficile scelta, anche a causa delle aziende che avevano già annunciato che non sarebbero state presente all’evento, il tutto per i timori creati dal Coronavirus e dalla sua diffusione.

Per giustificare questa scelta il CEO di GSMA John Hoffman ha voluto spiegare nel dettaglio la situazione. Ecco uno stralcio del suo comunicato (in lingua inglese)

“With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event. The Host City Parties respect and understand this decision. The GSMA and the Host City Parties will continue to be working in unison and supporting each other for MWC Barcelona 2021 and future editions. Our sympathies at this time are with those affected in China, and all around the world”.

GSMA ha dovuto fare un repentino cambio di rotta in merito al Mobile World Congress 2020, dato che durante le ultime settimane aveva continuato a sostenere l’evento arrivando addirittura a diffondere delle linee guida per la propria sicurezza e un esplicito divieto di partecipazione per chi arrivava da Hubei.

L’evento tornerà regolarmente nel 2021.
